CONGRATULATIONS Whitney!

Congrats to Whitney Craven for making the 2009 SEC Freshman Team. Whitney is only the third-ever Rebel volleyball player to receive this honor; the first being Jackie Jones in 2007 and second Regina Thomas in 2008. The last week of the season, Whitney also earned Freshman of the Week honors. The coaching staff is looking for Whitney to do some great things in her career at Ole Miss. Keep it up Whit!

Team Quotes - LSU Match

Senior Caitlin Weiss:
How exciting is it now to have these tough four games behind you and to know that the last five games are all winnable games?
"We're going 5-0 this last stretch. That's our goal. Put it in there because that's what we're doing."

Freshman Courtney Cunningham:
How do you feel you played individually - you hit .300 today?
"Coach really worked us this past week. He made sure that we were doing a lot of hitting drills and learned how to put the ball away."

Freshman Whitney Craven:
How do you feel you played individually - you hit over .300 today?
"I thought overall our hitting was a lot better tonight. This past week all we worked on was executing whever the ball was. I thought we did a good job of doing what we practiced."

Strength of SEC

Check out this week's AVCA Poll: October 12, 2009 Coaches' Top 25 Poll. The SEC has three teams in the top 25 rankings. Kentucky moved ahead of Florida to the #8 spot and LSU jumps to #23 with a sweep over Florida. The SEC is continuing to get better. We have LSU this weekend on the road in Baton Rouge. It will be a great test to our recent success. We are looking forward to it!

Road Sweep at Arkansas

On the road to Arkansas last night. We took a charter flight out of Oxford yesterday morning, beat those Razorbacks in three, and flew back home after the match in time to get a good night's sleep. Way to go Rebels!! Next challenge...LSU in Baton Rouge this Sunday. We will hit the road Saturday morning and get a practice in at the PMAC. Sunday game time is 1:30pm. Manager Kollin Falk's Volleyball Debut

As tradition goes, every new member to the Ole Miss volleyball family must make his/her entry into the welcoming arms of our group by participating in a "Spike Test." Of course, it must be a spike test because calling it a hitting test or attacking test just doesn't do the task any justice. We captured the newest member of our team, manager Kollin Falk, in action for his test. Spike on Kollin!! You passed!

CONGRATS REBELS!!

Great weekend Rebels! We lost a tough one to MS State but won an awesome match against Alabama. 17-15 in five. Thanks again to all the alumni that came back and joined us for the weekend. We enjoyed having you back and look forward to keeping in touch. Next up...Arkansas on Wednesday in Fayetteville. Stay tuned...

We had a rough weekend at Auburn and Georgia; however, I think you will be pleased to know that we saw the old Katie Norris today at practice - yeah Big Red! Hopefully she battled the last of the illness off because she looks like a brand new player. We had a great practice today and are ready to perform for our home crowd tomorrow. See you there - welcome back alumni!!

SEC Opener

Great fight against Florida, Rebels - just fell a little short in set five. We hope our fans enjoyed themselves at the high level match. We enjoyed every minute of your energy - you brought your A Game! Thank you. Quotes from the match:

How tough was this loss for you?
Junior Emily Kvitle:
"We were so relaxed and ready for them. It's so close you can almost taste it. I think it's still upsetting. Obviously we have to move on from this and focus on South Carolina now, but at the same time, we were right there."
The atmosphere tonight. Was this the type of crowd you all expected tonight?
Senior Caitlin Weiss:
"The crowd was unbelievable tonight!"
Was this the most complete game your team has played this year?
Head Coach Joe Getzin:
"There is no doubt about it from start to finish the level of play was at the highest we've seen from the team and we've got to build on it as we move forward."

REBEL QUOTES - UW-Milwaukee

Coach Getzin
Opening Statement:
"We saw an outstanding performance tonight from Morgan Springer. She came in and changed the attitude on the floor. Regina Thomas made some blocking adjustments, and we were able to shut down UW-Milwaukee's attack a little bit. I think the adjustments we made more with our attitude than anything else was the key to the win."

Freshman Whitney Craven
Was this what you expected being a freshman, the atmosphere out there tonight?
"This is everything I expected. I love every bit of it. I don't think I cold have asked for a better school, better teammates. I love it and I couldn't have asked for anything better."

Sophomore Morgan Springer
Talk about how the crowd helped you guys in the comeback tonight.
"If you get a good kill people are screaming in your ear, it really fires you up. It changes your momentum. It helps out the whole team."
